Lough Arrow is one of the great Irish wild brown trout fisheries where the trout average 1.5 lbs and much larger fish from 5- 8lb are caught every season. The duckfly hatch starts in late March/early April followed by the lake olives in April/early May. May and June sees tremendous hatches of Mayfly and Buzzers. The dry fly and nymph fishing can be wonderful at this time, especially for the spent gnat /buzzer feeders in the evenings. The lough gets a fall of Soldier beetles in July and in late July/early August the famous Green Peter hatch takes place at dusk on suitable evenings.

Late August to the end of the season in September sees the traditional wet fly being used extensively with good sport to be had especially in a good wind.
