The Newport River drains the famous Lough Beltra and flows 7 miles to the sea at Clew Bay.  This private fly only river is owned by the Newport House Hotel, which still maintains the original and unique West of Ireland angling hotel atmosphere and traditions. The river opens on the 20th of March and the spring run starts before this peaking in the middle to the end of May.  The grilse run from June throughout the summer and there is a run of bigger harvest fish in the late season.
